Should I hire a kitchen renovation firm or a cabinet company?

A cabinet company supplies and installs cabinets. A kitchen renovation firm runs the full project: demolition, plumbing and electrical changes, drywall, flooring, cabinets, counters and finishing, with one contract and one schedule.

Do I need a permit to renovate a kitchen?

Not for new cabinets, counters and finishes in most cities. Removing walls, moving plumbing or adding electrical circuits usually needs a building permit and inspections. Your municipality decides, so ask the firm to confirm what the job needs.

What happens first in a kitchen renovation?

Design and measuring. The layout, cabinets and appliances are chosen before demolition, because cabinets and counters are made or ordered to fit the room. Then come demolition, rough-in plumbing and electrical, inspections where a permit is needed, drywall, cabinets, counters and finishing.
